The foundation of law enforcement. Police Officers begin their careers here; some make it a life's work. Many consider it the most exciting aspect of law enforcement for its unpredictable, ever changing nature. Patrol officers interact closely with community members to solve and prevent crimes.
As with any progressive police department, NLVPD assigns more officers to Patrol than any other division. Special assignments within patrol include Motors and the Problem Solving Unit (PSU).
Patrol is the backbone of policing. Officers are the first level of contact with the criminal justice system for victims, suspects, witnesses and the general public. Our officers enjoy a high degree of public support due to the organization's philosophy which allows officers great discretion in the way they patrol their designated beats. Officers are expected to know the public they serve and to employ innovation and imagination in the way they do their jobs.
